Bought the missus a cheapy Dell jobbie for general work and that http://www1.euro.dell.com/uk/en/home/Desktops/inspiron-560/pd.aspx?refid=inspiron-560&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1 but the onboard graphics card is sheeite and we've started pissing about in warhammer so I chucked in a GeForce 7800GT http://reviews.cnet.com/graphics-cards/nvidia-geforce-7800-gt/4505-8902_7-31474209.html?tag=also. After installing it and all that lark it works grand but a note popped up on the screen when I finished installing the drivers that there is insufficient power goin to it so I need to plug it into the power supply via the jack in the upper right hand bit of the image above. Unfortunately there's not cable for this (think I threw it out) and the current cables coming from the power supply are flat jobbies (like the ones that plug into the drives) that don't fit it. Anyone got an idea if there's an adapter for this and what the name of it would be?

Did ye not get one in the box with the card? normally ye get molex (4 pin flat) to pcie converter thingy (the square socket on the card). sometimes theres actually 4 pin molex on the motherboard itself that will supply more juice to the pcie card slot. if not pop over to maplin or pc world and they should have one for a few quid.

Problem with Dell is that they always seem to give the bare minimum for what ye ordered. the one i bought mum years ago had an inbuild agp vga but when I went to replace the card I found riviets where the shaggin agp slot should have been. in short their a pack of C**TS.

Ah cheers man I'll have a look see. The GC box is long gone. The GC is from my old canabalised PC but I think I should have kept more of the bits before throwing it out

Yeah and I think their motherboard has ram slots that only accept Dell RAM, now if that wasn't designed by a child molester commie nazi I don't know what is, it wont accept the DDR2 ones I had from the old PC either.

Cheers mate

This is the culprit I'm looking for http://img99.imageshack.us/i/vx450wmw4.jpg/ marked in red, what am I looking to adapt it to i.e. what goes on the other end of the wire to be compatible with the motherboard doohicky?

Also these Dell bastards don't let you see views of their motherboards online so it's hard to say whether I can plug it into the motherboard or where When I set up my Reich there will be a complete overhaul and monopolization of the computer industry. There will be one type of motherboard, socket and driver and all will be called 'Ralph 1.1, 1.2' etc. We'll dumb down the techno-waffle of everything and drivers will be sent to you weekly by email and every pc will come with a fully upgradeable lucy liu-bot. The End.

Thanks Vorteks, no worries, thanks for checking anyway

I bought one of them on the way to the pub last night Grid thinking it would be the most likely adapter to work, ofc I neglected to check what the options were. This morning I had a better look at it and realised that Dell in their incredibly flexible wisdom and infinite possibilities for upgrading and expansion have decided that the only extra power supply connection needed is a sata connection!?

So I need to go back today and get one of these http://www.power-on.com/images/product/accessories/epstoatxges.jpg

C*&s!

Do you mean that theres only an sata cable and no molex? the one you linked above looks like the main board power input plugs, dont plug them in or ye'll nuke yer card. if ye have the one Grid linked above get one of these and ye should be in buisness.
