New Star war MMORPG announced from Bioware. Will we ever trust them again after Star Wars: Galaxies?

I am guessing it will be a sort of non-pausable version of KOTOR. We shall see...if it ever makes it to the Beta...

SWG was SOE who have a fairly shoddy track record. Bioware has a much, much better one; Baldur's Gate, NWN and not least KotOR which is ace so at least they've shown they can make a decent SW game. Whether they can make an MMO or not is to be seen.

SWG was pretty good before they started trying to 'fix' it.

I still remember our town of 'New Babbooine' fondly. Even if it did get the occasional giant monkey coming to rampage over it.

Not many screenshots from back then though :(

Babboine rocked. I was the head of the Smuggler's Guild. We had an AGM once.

well i remember playing SWG when it came out and to paraphrase you mrcheeks you hit the nail on the head with the phrase "painstaking accuracy of life on tatooine" I was bored to fucking tears, no vehicles, nothing to really do as it was just after they released when they forgot (on purpose) to add the actual content. gave up and never looked back.

as for knights of the old republic, well I thought it was mildly better then SWG (in its state at the time) if you like that game type then fine but I wan't into it got bored after a few hours of playing it. if you want your Starwars fix I recommend the old skool x-wing/tie-fighter series they were ace but ye need a good flight stick for em. funnily enought thats what i've been playing lately, x-wing alliance with the tie-fighter total conversion mod, I'm having a blast mincing rebel scum with my tie intercepter :)

X-Wing Alliance (prob costs a fiver these days) is about 10 years old now but still not come accross a space combat sim as good as it yet.

Tie Fighter mod can be found herehttp://www.tftc.gaylenol.com/

Tie Fighter is my favorite SW game of all time. I'm seriously hoping TOR has some proper space combat in it.

Dark Forces was also awesome.

A Star Wars MMORPG with the same playstyle like the thrid person action star wars games like Jedi Knigt Outcast and Jedi Academy? SOUNDS AWSOME :D
You guys that played the old SWG how much RPG was it in it and how much action was it in it?

and his eyes have all the seeing of a demon that is dreaming...

Roleplay consisted of staring at twilek dancers in slave-leia outfits in bars.

Action consisted of 2 hrs writing/copying involved repeating macros from teh interweb, then leaving your character logged in over night while it ground up its skills.

Ah the fantasticness of Jedi Knight outcast. Diving into a room flinging your lightsaber at four geezers whilst pushing another four against the wall. All the fun of the dark arts from the comfort of your own swivel chair. Ten years old and it still urinates on that new Star wars game out for the X-Box.

Actually in terms of MMO programming they are no worse than any of the other companies out there and potentially they are more experienced.

They have turned VG around and have over the years produced some quality MMO's but for one reason or another they fncked right up on SWG.

Every corporation has a bad game or two though I am sure

hehe izz yeah I loved that old arcade game :) used to spend ages on it at funderland every christmas as a kid , ye should pick up x-wing alliance from a bargain bin someplace along with a good flight stick (and throttle if ye can) and go nuts :)
if anyone else has it we could try getting a multiplayer session goin some night for the laugh :)
