Why are people so adamant about VLC anyways? It blows, get some proper codecs and run WMP Classic.

VLC is king. Never had a codec issue with it whereas I gasp in surprise every time windows media player is accidentally opened and plays something without issues. I wee on its inferiority.

WMP Classic is far better, you're just biased because it has a M$ tag attached.

VLC can't render subs for shit, and MKV playback can be sketchy. Of course it doesn't matter if all you play is shitty xvids...

I assume le Babaro is refering to Media Player Classic which is both awesome and not Microsoft (Just based on classic WMP from the olden days).

I do use VLC instead though but only recently.

Im with ya bibs :) media player classic does 99.9% of what I need and find it handier to use without the aid of a mouse, but use VLC now and again primarily for music or net streaming.

Mediaportal's a nice front end (and alternative to windows media centre) I use it on the main Media box I built for my dad, add a tv capture card for nice sky box tv pause rewind record action and windows media remote for easy use. connected to the house network is ace as can play anything shared out. Also wrote a plugin for it a while back to allow watching internet streams like tv channels :) and by side effect sopcast for da footy \o/
