So ill be moving to reading in July :)
SO, who lives in reading and is still active? I'd like a quick guide of good/bad places to live; im looking for as close to pingewood as possible.

Right next to Madjeski stadium: you are going to be fucked in the ear whenever there is a big game on... other than that it should be good: nice links into town centre by bus/car, there is a Morrisons nearby for shopping and a goodly number of shops in the retail park to kit your new place out... main roads between you and whitley should also lessen the scum quotient :D
Oh.. and that Junction 11 roundabout thingum is a bit of a cunt >.<

Hmm, there's no 'nice' or 'shitty' bits of Reading really. Every suburb / district or whatever has got nice areas and not so nice areas, but generally it's like this:
Town Centre - wide variety of housing, people and costs.
Caversham - generally more nice places than shitty, but more expensive and a 5-10 min drive North of Town Centre (Green Park is South of Reading).
Whitley - More shitty than nice (with some random good bits hidden away). Cheap, and closest to Green Park.
Oxford Rd (Town / Tilehurst borders) - fairly standard stuff, most buildings are exactly the same pretty much, only different grades of decor and condiftion depending on landlord. Oxford Rd used to be the main high street, like, back when they used oil lamps or some shit. Now is just the main thoroughfare from one side of town to the other (West to East).
Tilehurst - a good mixture of nice and crappy. As a rule, the closer to town, the more crappy the place or area, but as you get further West it starts getting nicer again.
Cemetary Junction - Studentville. This is just North of the Uni so most 2nd year+ students rent out here. Probably hard to find a whole place to yourself for cheap, but rooms to let are everywhere and reasonably priced for the student masses. Expect a wide spectrum of nice-to-shitty.
Earley / Woodley - Generally much nicer, but waaaaay East and probably a lot more expensive. Not as easy to get to nightlife activities.
As it happens I am currently in the moving process myself (or at least, looking for somewhere new cos my landlady is selling the flat), so depending on what you are looking for and what kind of money you are looking at throwing around I might have some insight as to what is available. Alas however, not being a clairvoyant I cant comment on prices in 6 months time!

Fishboy, you forgot to add a 'chances of being stabbed and/or mugged' rating to each area.
And we all know the biggest selling point of any property for you is how long it takes you to walk to Pavs.
